Layoffs vs furloughs of transportation drivers are the topic of discussion within this article. The idea of a furlough is temporary, and the objective is that you will be able to bring back your drivers who have been loyal to your transportation business. Keep in mind that this furlough was no fault of the drivers or the owners that the furlough was required.

With this scenario, the trucking industry owners did not have a playbook or a written strategy to be able to react with a suitable plan. The timeline was too immediate for this to take place and for these reasons, transportation owners made the financial decision to furlough or layoff their drivers.

How well owners treated drivers and drivers treated owners in the past and how this treatment during the pandemic will weigh heavily on the two-way loyalty between the drivers and owners.

The economy will come back strong and it is imperative we keep more drivers on the road!
