The transportation owners and truck drivers continue to make every effort to keep our lives in a semi-normal state from the impacts of COVID-19. We are truly grateful and respectful of all of the efforts and sacrifices being made by these most generous and hardworking people.

Although there remains much uncertainty both today and for the future, it has not stopped the transportation owners and truck drivers from delivering non-stop needed articles we require on a daily basis. Many of us are not necessarily thinking of beyond COVID-19, but there will be a recovery. We all hope the recovery is a V-type or at least a U-type economic recovery.

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is an organization who understands that 2018 was a great year in the transportation industry and how 2019 took a turn down in the transportation business. Due to conditions the transportation industries has little control of, 2020 may be a challenging year for the industry as we come out of the COVID-19 timeline.

Attached is a letter the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) wrote to the United States Congressional Leaders. Here are a few aspects they are asking our Congress to pass, support and work with the transportation industry.

  • Pass the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act
  • Support the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration efforts
  • Steps to address excessive detention times
  • Fair Labor Standards Act for driver overtime
